WHITE RICE

Overview

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, South Asia, Southeast Asia and East Asia produce and consume more than 80% of the world's rice.

For years, Vietnam has achieved significant success in rice exports. In 2023, rice exports reached 4.78 billion USD, increasing by 36.6% compared to the previous year. This is the highest export productivity in many years of the Vietnamese rice industry. Moreover, Vietnam accounts for about 15% of total global rice exports. Currently, Vietnam is the world’s 5th largest rice producer and the world’s third-largest exporter.

Vietnam’s white rice has expanded its market to more than 180 countries. In particular, demanding markets such as Europe, America, Korea, Australia, and the Middle East are also tending to favor high-quality Vietnamese rice.

Our Factory

In Vietnam, there are 3 main regions where people produce the most amount of rice.

  • Southern Delta (Mekong Delta): Warm and humid climate with abundant sunshine. Dominates rice coverage.
  • Northern Delta: Experiences tropical monsoons and cold winters. Home to rainfed and flood-prone rice varieties.
  • Highlands of the North: Ideal for upland rice varieties. However, people are almost impressed by the breathtaking scenes there.

Currently, HAVIGO has a rice growing area in the Mekong Delta - a place with favorable geographical conditions for rice growing in Vietnam. We own 3 rice factories in Tien Giang, Ha Nam and An Giang with more than 2000 workers working on the production line.

Packing

White rice: People use woven polypropylene bags or multi-ply paper bags for bulk export. Multi-ply paper bags offer additional protection from dust and moisture.

  • Strength and Durability: The bags used are chosen for their strength to withstand the weight of the rice and the rigors of transport, preventing tears or punctures.
  • Moisture Protection: Some exporters may use inner plastic liners within the bags to provide an extra layer of protection against moisture damage, which can affect rice quality.
  • Bag Sizes: Common bag sizes for bulk rice export include 25 kg, 50 kg, and 100 kg. The specific size chosen depends on buyer requirements and shipping logistics.

Loading Process

Before loading to the container, we always focus on the following elements of white rice:

  • HS Code Labeling: For customs purposes, rice shipments require proper labeling with the HS Code. This internationally standardized code identifies the type of rice being exported (e.g., 100630 for fully milled rice).
  • Fumigation: In some cases, rice shipments may undergo fumigation to eliminate pests during transport. Exporters ensure compliance with regulations of the importing country.
  • Protecting from Moisture: As with packing, white rice during loading is protected from moisture. This might involve covering the hold/container bed with tarps during loading or transport, especially in areas with high humidity.
