GREEN COFFEE BEANS

Overview

According to the report, coffee bean exports account for over 10% of Vietnam’s total agricultural exports. In 2023, Vietnam exported 1.62 million tons of coffee beans and the annual value is around $4.2 billion. Nowadays, Vietnam is at the top of producers and exporters of Robusta coffee beans. Vietnam holds a substantial 40% share of the global Robusta market. For many years, Vietnam has always maintained the 2nd position in exporting coffee beans to the world.

✅ Vietnam possesses natural conditions of fertile basalt soil and tropical savanna climate that are very suitable for growing different coffee varieties.
✅ We own 710,000 hectares of growing area and the coffee yield reaches 2.4 tons/ha, so we do not re-import or depend on other countries.

Packing

1. Choosing the Packaging:

  • Jute Bags: The most common method is using new, good quality jute bags. These are natural fibers that allow the beans to breathe and maintain moisture content. Standard weight per bag is 60kgs.

  • Bulk Bags: For larger shipments, moisture-proof big bags with a thick liner can be used. These hold around 1 cubic meter (roughly 1.5 tons) of coffee.

2. Pre-Shipment Requirements:

  • TCVN Standards: Vietnam adheres to specific standards set by TCVN (The Vietnamese Agency for Standardization, Measurement and Quality). These include TCVN 1279:1993 for packaging, labeling, storage, and transport.
  • Moisture Content: Green coffee beans are exported with a specific moisture content, usually around 12.5% maximum, to prevent spoilage during transport.
  • Bean Quality: The beans are visually inspected to ensure they meet the agreed grade with minimal black/broken beans and foreign matter.
