BLACK CARDAMOM

Overview

The story of Vietnamese black cardamom begins in the cool, humid highlands near the border. This plant flourishes in the fertile soils of the Hoang Lien Son mountains. The ethnic minority communities traditionally cultivate black cardamom. Then, for centuries, This spice has been a staple ingredient in their cuisine and traditional medicine. Today, Vietnam remains a major producer of black cardamom, exporting this unique spice to the world.

Black Cardamom is one of the famous specialty spices of the northern mountainous provinces in Vietnam. With a rich, slightly sweet flavor, many people compare to mint, cardamom is the "soul" to create a unique flavor that appeals to the taste buds.

The special thing about this spice is health benefits. Cardamom can help people reduce blood pressure, improve digestion, fight cancer and inflammation, etc.

Our Factory

Black cardamom is often grown in mountainous areas of Vietnam. People often harvest this black cardamom in October and November. They climb to the mountain, where the cardamom plants grow and develop well. This spice isn’t your average supermarket spice. Unlike its green cousin, people harvest black cardamom when the pods are still green but just starting to ripen. This timing is important to get the best flavor and aroma. Traditionally, farmers carefully cut the pods by hand and then carry them in baskets on their backs.

Currently, HAVIGO owns a large cardamom factory with more than 200 employees for in-line production to ensure product can reach the best quality when exported.

Packing

Black cardamom at HAVIGO usually be packed in carton boxes with a weight of 10kg. However, depending on each customer's needs, we will be flexible in packaging.

Types of Packaging:

  • PP Bags: New, good quality PP bags are the most common choice. They offer reasonable strength and moisture resistance while allowing the cardamom to breathe slightly. Standard sizes include 25kg and 50kg bags.

  • Carton Boxes: Some exporters use heavy-duty cardboard cartons for smaller quantities or for higher-grade cardamom. This provides additional protection but may be less cost-effective for bulk shipments.

Packing Considerations:

  • Moisture Content: Maintaining a proper moisture content (around 10-13%) is crucial to prevent mold growth and preserve the flavor.

  • Foreign Matter: The cardamom should be free of excessive debris, dirt, or other foreign materials.
